Park Safety For Dogs & People
What Are The Rules?
Virtually every Off Leash Dog Area (OLDA) in the country has posted rules enforced by the jurisdiction or property owner. They are generally posted at the front gate.
In Fairfax County the rules are the same at every OLDA, including the Baron Cameron OLDA for which RestonDogs is the sponsor. You can view the rules here.
Penalty For Failure To Follow Posted Rules
If a visitor to the OLDA willingly violates a posted rule, or refuses to follow a the instruction of a Monitor to adhere to a rule, can face a charge of trespassing. Under Virginia law, the penalty for trespassing (a Class 1 misdemeanor) is confinement in jail for not more than twelve months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.
Why Rules Must Be Followed
Before entering any Off Leash Dog Area, please read and obey the posted rules. In Fairfax County, failure to follow the rules can result in expulsion from the park and a trespassing charge resulting in a fine. OLDA rules are created after careful consideration of many factors you many not have considered, including legal concerns, zoning issues, and political realities.
Besides incurring a possible fine, failure to follow the rules can lead to the OLDA being closed or severely restricted.
Who Enforces The Rules?
At the Baron Cameron OLDA, RestonDogs is responsible for enforcing the rules. We have a team of trained Dog Park Monitors who act on behalf of the Fairfax County Park Authority.
Dog Park Monitors receive training from RestonDogs and the FCPA. They have the authority to charge rules violators with trespassing
